I'm a Cubs fan through and through, but I'm pretty happy this morning that the Phillies prevailed last night to win the World Series because my grandmother has been a loyal Philadelphia baseball fan since she went to her first game in 1931 (back when the local team was the Philadelphia A's, playing in what later was renamed Connie Mack Stadium).
But here is a worrisome thought. When my grandmother saw her first baseball game, it was one year before the "Roosevelt Realignment" -- when FDR was elected in a landslide that changed the political landscape for a half century. When the Phillies finally won their first World Series with Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Bake McBride and the rest -- it was just a couple weeks before the sun rose on the Reagan Revolution. With Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid licking their chops at the the present poll numbers, should all of us Obama-skeptics have been rooting for the Rays??
