Little known fact: I'm a British heavy metal enthusiast. From old school Sabbath to the new wave of Motorhead, Saxon, and Iron Maiden -- I love it all.
When I lived in London I was bored one Sunday evening and decided to go to up to Camden Town to check out a electro-pop duo that was getting a lot of buzz (random, I know). Naturally, I got lost. Just as I was ready to admit defeat and head back down to Chelsea, I heard the delightful sound of Motorhead's classic tune, "Ace of Spades." Turns out I had accidentally stumbled upon a pub called Carnarvon Castle (which, on a side note, is named after a hella sweet castle in NW Wales) which featured a heavy metal cover band every Sunday from 6pm to 10pm. These guys were amazing. I came back to see them every Sunday that I had free.
What always cracked me up was that every week the band would let this other dude sing "Fear of the Dark" by Iron Maiden. He was usually dressed in a suit and looked like he was an accountant or some such. But I'll be damned if this guy didn't rock the house and sound JUST LIKE Bruce Dickinson.
It's probably been five years since I went to the show, but I'd like to think that the band still plays the Carnarvon Castle every week and accountant man continues to rock out. In honor of him, "Fear of the Dark" is the song of the week:
