I still have not decided whether to go to see Australia. On the one hand, I do indulge in Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge on a regular basis, which suggests his latest offering is worth seeing; on the other hand, there is the fantastic review of Ross Douthat in the December 15 issue of National Review, which contains one of the best set of lines I have recently read in a review of a movie:
And God, how I hated him. Not the actor, who brings a kilowatt smile and an androgynous charisma to a role he's not responsible for crafting, but the character, who occupies a peculiar zone where political correctness shades into precisely the sort of racial sterotyping it's supposed to counteract.
So, you see my dilemna in whether to go see Australia. Any further thoughts on whether I should see the movie are appreciated.
