I reviewed Lissy Trullie's fabulous (but too short) album Self-taught Learner awhile back. She recently re-released the album with some new tracks.
Check out the old review for an overview of why the album is fantabulous. As for the new songs:
"Don't to Do" - By far the best of the new songs. If you were paying attention, you could have downloaded the song for free via a Filter magazine link I posted a few weeks back. If you didn't, I highly recommend shelling out the 99 cents to pick up the song. It's got a slowish, yet upbeat tempo and brings attitude in droves. In other words, it's vintage Lissy.
"Hold Your Head" - The second best of the new songs. Again, it's slowish, yet upbeat and shows off Lissy's deep voice. A good addition to the original Self-taught Learner tracks.
"Just a Friend" - A cover, clearly. A decent cover no less. But it is no where close to her cover of Hot Chip's "Ready for the Floor" which is on the original version of Self-taught learner. And being the second best cover on an album isn't exactly a sought-after title.
"You Bleed You" - This song boasts a low-key, alt-country vibe. It's a great song, even if it doesn't quite fit with the rest of the album.
