After once again sitting through Chase Bank's "Ink" credit card commercial, which uses as its background music Yes' Chess-themed song "I've Seen All Good People: Your Move" (a song that also recently appeared in an episode of Fringe), I tried to put together a list of good songs about board-games. I couldn't think of many as I'm not as musically diverse as others in this neighborhood. So help me out YR nation, what are your favorite songs involving board-games? Can any of them beat my personal favorite, Murray Head's "One Night In Bangkok,"which takes sneering condescension and chess snobbery to heights never equaled in pop music?
In return for your help, I'll offer this piece of advice: Don't undertake an on-line search using the terms "one night in Bangkok" on your workplace computer unless you desire a visit from a concerned supervisor.

Here are a few
"(Our Loves in) Jeopardy" by Greg Kihn, quickly parodied as "I Lost on Jeopardy" by Weird Al Yankovic. Shawn Colvin wrote a weepie called "Monopoly." If you allow a little latitude for video games, there is "Space Invader" on the first Pretenders album. Somebody also did something called "PacMan Fever" that I'd like to forget. Even more latitude for pinball there's of course "Pinball Wizard" by the Who and later Elton John. And if you count card games there's more...

Ah, nice try, Larry, but I think you're running into the same problem I had. See, I'm looking for songs about (or significantly involving) board-games (not game shows, cards, video-games, etc.). As such I don't think any of the above fit the bill. "Monopoly" was really the only one that had a shot, but other than the title it doesn't have anything to do with the classic game. There seem to be suprisingly few songs that fit the bill.

There's a lost gem of a tune called "Chutes and Ladders" by twee punksters Crayon from 1994ish. And while its not really about the game of chess, Dylan's "Only a Pawn in Their Game" kinda sorta fits.

I know I was bending the rules (assuming YR posts have 'rules'), but I should point out that Jeopardy really is a board game as well as a game show (although Weird Al is referring to the TV version).

On The 36 Chambers, Wu Tang did a cut called "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'," which starts with a sample of a kung fu film that states, "the game of chess is like a sward fight- you must think first before you move." I think that counts.
