YeahRighter Whitney caught up with the latest cut from Top Chef Season Six Eli Kirshtein this afternoon. Interview after the break!
Last night's competition was intense. The chefs engaged in mini version of the olympics of cooking - the Bocuse d'Or. These elite references and the amazing chefs who judge just make me shake my head at the caliber of competition Bravo is able to create.
The schedule and intensity definitely caught up with the contestants in last night's episode as even the Voltaggio brothers stumbled somewhat. Eli admitted it got to him.
"You can see that people were just exhausted...and the last challege was toughest. It was all-encompassingly difficult."
When asked if he got a fair shake in last night's episode, Eli piped up that the judges are always incredibly fair. "Case by case. Dish by dish. It really is whoever's food is the worst went home period."
But should one of the Voltaggio brothers have gone home? After all, Bryan - the one who doesn't look like Tony Hawk - managed to miscook his lamb just like Eli. "I think both of their dishes were better than mine without question and I think that [the judges] were just being hypercritical about everything."
So we're down to the final four. Speaking of which, does anyone else think that Bravo producers have kinda set these guys up to be the frontrunners from the get-go?
Eli naively said that he didn't think it was edited that way citing them showing Jenn's mid-season struggle. But that just makes me think they told her to stumble or get nerves OR they helped coach her behind screen out of her nerves. The symmetry to her plot arc is somewhat suspicious...
Finally, the million dollar question - who does Eli think will win it all?
"I can't objectively tell you because I know who won."
Well hot damn.
Final, random quote from the interview and pretty much the only interesting thing Eli said the whole time....
"Michael Voltaggia's polenta with banana was an existential experience."
I liked Eli but it was clear that he wasn't as good as the other four. Since the first episode I said Kevin would win it all and I'm sticking by that.
